As the year winds down, we here at Samson have been very busy finishing up some exciting projects in the works and wanted to share what will be released in 2018!
FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY, directed and written by Carmel Winters (SNAP), stars Hazel Doupe (RIPPER STREET), Dara Devaney (CAMELOT), Aidan O’Hare (THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY), Lalor Roddy (HUNGER), Hilda Fay (WHISTLEBLOWER), and Johnny Collins (son of actor MICHAEL COLLINS). The film also boasts a talented crew consisting of individuals such as Michael Lavelle (HIS AND HERS) as the director of photography and Julian Ulrichs (SING STREET) as the editor. Set in 1970’s Ireland, this film is a touching and universal family story about self-determination and family bonding. Irish traveller Frances has to fight for the right to pursue her passion – boxing. Frances is determined to make her idol Muhammad Ali proud, as well as her father who has recently been released from prison. But when she wants to show him just how tough she is, she soon comes to realise he’s got other plans for her.
END OF SENTENCE, directed by Elfar Adalsteins (SAILCLOTH) and written by Michael Armbruster (BEAUTIFUL BOY), stars John Hawkes (WINTER’S BONE), Logan Lerman (THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER), and Sarah Bolger (IN AMERICA). This road trip drama tells the story of Frank Fogle. After being widowed, Frank reluctantly embarks on a journey to honor his wife’s last wish of spreading her ashes in a remote lake in her native Ireland and a promise of taking his estranged son, Sean, along for the trip. As Sean steps out of prison the last thing on his mind is a foreign road trip with his alienated father. What he needs is a fresh start in California. But when his travel plans collapse he reluctantly accepts his father’s proposal in return for a ticket to the West Coast and a promise that they never have to see each other again. Between a disconcerting Irish wake, the surfacing of an old flame, the pick up of a pretty hitchhiker and plenty of unresolved issues, the journey becomes a little more than father and son had bargained for.
CELLAR DOOR, directed and written by Viko Nikci (COMING HOME), stars Karen Hassan (HUNGER), Catherine Walker (A DARK SONG), and Mark O’Halloran (ADAM & PAUL). Racing from young love to tortured loss and back again— Cellar Door is a provocative mystery thriller. The story follows Aidie, a fighter inside and out, as she searches for her son while in the grip of the Church. The subjective perspective shifts to reveal that we have been given a deeper understanding of an issue that affects countless millions. With a unique point of view on a familiar trauma, Cellar Door cuts deep into the character’s experience— an exploration of love regained and loss relived.
