Samson Films is proud to announce that our short film, ‘Songbird’ has been selected for the Galway Film Fleadh.
Having its debut at The Fastnet Film Festival earlier this year, ‘Songbird’ follows Yana, a young Ukrainian girl, who struggles to assimilate in her school and new life in Ireland until she meets Chloe, a bubbly classmate who helps Yana find her way. Together the girls become friends and Yana finds hope and peace in the chaos of change.
The short was directed by Viko Nikci (Coming Home, Cellar Door) and written by Viko & Eoin Colfer (Artemis Fowl, Half Moon Investigates). ‘Songbird’ was made with the help of many Ukrainian film professionals who have been displaced, finding themselves in Ireland without any ties to the industry and accurately represents Samson’ commitment to sharing and creating essential stories like Yana’s on screen.
Along with Viko, Eamon Hughes from Samson produced the short and shares, “Working with such an incredible community of Ukrainian filmmakers has been an inspiring experience, we are proud to present this film at the Fleadh and hope that the Irish film industry can find a way to continue to welcome and include these talented professionals.”
‘Songbird’ was commissioned for RTÉ Kids as part of the European Broadcast Union (EBU) Drama Exchange and will air on RTÉ2 this Autumn 2023
We look forward to showcasing ‘Songbird’ at the Film Fleadh in July 2023.
